Forward Matthew Fondy was Chivas USA’s final acquisition of the 2013 season, signing with the club on Aug. 30. Prior to joining the Red-and-White, the Northern Californian native was the leading goal scorer for an LA Blues side that reached the USL PRO 2013 Quarterfinals.
Upon arriving to the Rebaño Angelino, Fondy became an instant spark in the attack off the bench. In his debut season in MLS, the forward participated in seven matches for the Goats and earned his first career start in the final leg of the 2013 SuperClásico.
As a standout with the Blues, Fondy recorded 10 goals and delivered two assists in just 10 regular-season games, and by the sixth week of the USL PRO season, the striker earned his fourth “Team of the Week” honor.
The UC Santa Cruz graduate and 2009 NSCAA Division III All-American turned pro in 2011 when he signed with the USL PRO’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Fondy made his debut on April 9 against the Richmond Kickers and eventually scored his first goal against F.C. New York on May 21.
