Juan Manuel Martínez
Mutually agreed to terminate contract following 2016 season.
Martinez is an accomplished, skilled attacker capable of wreaking havoc on opposing defenses from wide and central positions. “Burrito” made an immediate impact after joining RSL in 2015, scoring one goal and adding one assist in eight matches to help the club make a late (unsuccessful) playoff push. He showed good chemistry with Claret-and-Cobalt attackers Javier Morales and Joao Plata, and should be a big part of the RSL attack moving forward.
INTERNATIONAL: Appeared four times for Argentina in 2011 and 2012, scoring his lone international goal against Brazil on September 19, 2012.
OUTSIDE MLS: Apart from a brief loan stint in Saudi Arabia, Martinez spent his entire career prior to RSL in South America, playing 13 seasons in various top flights around the continent. He mostly played in the Argentine Primera, but also had stints in Colombia (Cucuta, 2007) and Brazil (Corinthians, 2012). He spent the bulk of his time with Buenos Aires club Velez Sarsfeld, helping the club to two league titles and sharing the 2010 Argentine Footballer of the Year honors with Leo Messi.
Martinez, who had 44 goals in 258 career appearances outside MLS, spent two years with Boca Juniors before moving to RSL.
