ACQUIRED: Signed to a Designated Player contract by Real Salt Lake on a free transfer on Aug. 13, 2015.

 

CLUB: Martínez joined RSL following 13 professional seasons in South American top-flight leagues, mostly in in the Argentine Primera Division, with stints in Colombia (Cucuta, 2007) and Brazil (Corinthians, 2012). The Vélez Sársfield product amassed 258 career appearances and 44 goals dating back to 2003. A two-time league champion with 2005 and 2009 Clausura titles, as well as the 2010 Apertura runner-up, all with Vélez, Martínez's domestic performance earned him recognition as the 2010 Argentine Footballer of the Year, as awarded by that nation's sporting press. Martínez joined Argentine heavyweights Boca Juniors in January 2013, making 58 appearances for the iconic club while scoring 10 goals.

 

2016: Martinez logged 2,519 minutes in 32 games and 29 starts for RSL. Tallying seven goals in his first full year as an RSL player, Martinez also provided three assists. He started both of RSL’s U.S. Open Cup matches at Rio Tinto stadium, playing 120 minutes against both Wilmington and Seattle, scoring a goal in each shootout respectively. Martinez also played 90 minutes in both games against Liga MX side Tigres in CONCACAF Champions League play.

 

2015: Martinez made an instant impact with RSL, as Real won in three of his first four starts as he drew two penalties and added one goal and one assist.  He added a goal in CONCACAF Champions League, too, as RSL advanced out of the Group Stage with a  3-0-1 record.  He finished the season with eight appearances, seven of them starts, in MLS play and 10 appearances across all competitions.

 

INTERNATIONAL: Former Argentina international (4 caps). Appeared four times for Argentina in 2011 and 2012 and scored one goal, against Brazil, on Sept. 19, 2012.
