Option declined following 2016 season.
Once one of the most feared defenders in MLS, Olave has fallen off a bit during his second stint with Real Salt Lake. Well into his mid-30s, the Colombian doesn’t have the pace or power that he once did, but he stills plays a major role for the Claret-and-Cobalt and could continue to do so through 2016.
OUTSIDE MLS: Olave began his career in his native Colombia in 2001, when he signed with Deportivo Cali. He spent his first few years as a pro on loan to other Colombian sides, playing with Atletico Huela in 2002, Patriotas FC in 2003 and Chico FC in 2004 before earning a regular spot with Cali in 2005. Totaled 97 appearances for the Colombian giants before moving to RSL in January 2008.
NOTES: A major part of the RSL squad that won MLS Cup 2009, Olave was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2010 and was an All-Star and Best XI selection in 2010 and 2011.
