HOW ACQUIRED: Selected 14th in the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft from FC Dallas on Dec. 10, 2014

CAREER

2013: Logged more than 2,000 minutes for the FC Dallas defense for the third time in his career. Scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 87th minute of a 1-0 win versus Los Angeles Galaxy on April 13. Was on the field for seven of Dallas’ nine shutouts. Through the first 21 games of the season, Dallas had a 7-2-4 record with John on the field and a 1-3-4 record without the central defender.

2012: Returned from a two-month loan period with West Ham United on March 2. Logged 1,756 minutes played for FC Dallas. The team was 7-9-7 in matches in which John played and 2-4-5 in the 11 matches he missed due to injury.

2011: Logged the third-most minutes (3,638) of any FC Dallas player across all competitions despite missing three games in August to travel to England and discuss a possible contract with Blackburn. Scored three goals and had one assist for Dallas. The first assist of his career came on a goal scored by Marvin Chavez in the 78th minute of a 2-2 draw with New York Red Bulls on June 23.

2010: Started 25 of 30 regular season games. Scored his only goal of the season against the Galaxy in the Western Conference Final on Nov. 14. Helped Dallas record a franchise-best goals against average of 0.93.

2009: Made his professional debut when he started his first career MLS match as a central defender on April 19 versus Toronto FC, a 3-2 win. Started 15 of the 30 regular season games and appeared in 16 matches in his rookie season. Suffered a right hamstring injury on May 16 forcing him to miss the next six games. Drafted in the first round (14th overall) by FC Dallas in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.

COLLEGE

Four-year letterwinner, three-year starter, and two-year co-captain at the University of Washington. Played the majority of his career as a defensive midfielder. Led the Huskies to back-to-back trips to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and '07. Three-time NSCAA/adidas All-Far West Region selection (first-team in 2008; second-team in '07, '06). Two-time first-team All-Pac-10 ('07, '08). All-Pac-10 second-team honoree in '06. Two-time first-team NSCAA Scholar All-American ('07, '08). Named 2008 Pac-10 Men’s Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year. Three-time Pac-10 All-Academic selection (first-team in '08, '06; second-team in '07). Four of his nine career goals were game-winners.

Parents are John and Emilie. Mother is a teacher and father is a lawyer. Has a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Angelea. Was a business administration major at the University of Washington. Is an avid Greek dancer. Won the 2010 AHEPA Harrg Agganis Award.
