The San Diego native reached a personal milestone in 2013, as he surpassed the 100-game mark in Major League Soccer. In his first season with the Chivas-USA Avila set career-highs in games played (28), starts (24), minutes (2,183) and goals (3), while adding two assists.
The attacking midfielder originally signed a Generation adidas contract and was drafted in the second round (19th overall) in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas. In four seasons with FCD, Avila made 63 appearances, including 13 in 2011 with five starts, scoring one goal and adding two assists. In 2010, the 26-year-old helped lead FCD to the MLS Cup final before falling short of the title. As an amateur, Avila played collegiately at UC Santa Barbara and won the 2006 NCAA Men’s National Championship and has represented the United States at the U-20 and U-17 levels.
