Career Summary

A Nigerian-born forward with solid work rate and versatility, David Egbo was selected ninth overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Akron.

He agreed to a Major League Soccer contract with club options through 2024 in February 2021. In June 2021, Egbo joined the USL Championship side through the end of the 2021 USL Championship season, including an option to recall.

WHITECAPS FC

'21: In his first professional season, Egbo went out on loan to USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC and started 10 of his 17 regular season appearances for the club, scoring five goals and adding an assist.

COLLEGE

'17-'19: Egbo played three seasons at Akron, collecting 21 goals and 13 assists in 35 starts and 56 appearances. In his last season with the Zips, Egbo led the Mid-American Conference with per-game averages of 0.75 goals and 4.00 shots, and placed second with 0.75 assists while wearing the captain’s armband as a junior. In the previous year, Egbo’s 13 total goals led the MAC, while also landing in the top 10 with five assists. That season, he helped Akron to the MAC Tournament title and a runner-up finish in the 2018 College Cup. The striker was recognized with a United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team selection in 2018, as well as All-MAC First Team honours in his last two seasons.

'18: Egbo also featured for Black Rock FC, recording a goal and an assist in seven appearances.

Born in Kaduna and raised in Enugu, Egbo left Nigeria and moved to the United States for high school, attending The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA... He developed in his youth with The International Sports Academy in Lagos, Nigeria, and with Century Soccer in Pittsburgh, PA.
