Youness Mokhtar signs for Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag after Columbus Crew SC stint

Youness Mokhtar - Columbus Crew SC - arms wide

After seeing his 2021 contract option declined, former Columbus Crew SC winger Youness Mokhtar has signed with Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag, the club announced Monday.

Mokhtar joined Columbus during the 2019 summer transfer window and finished with four goals and one assist in 27 games (15 starts). His contributions waned as Columbus won MLS Cup 2020, as he didn’t make any appearances in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

Before coming to Columbus, Mokhtar came through the PSV Eindhoven youth system and played for Dutch clubs such as PEC Zwolle and FC Twente. Mokhtar, 29, has featured on various youth national teams for Morocco and the Netherlands. He was a free agent before signing for Crew SC, with Norway’s Stabaek his last stop pre-MLS.

As Mokhtar returns home with MLS Cup silverware, Columbus have no shortage of wide options. Pedro Santos, Luis Diaz and Derrick Etienne Jr. are all key pieces from their 2020 squad, while they also signed Kevin Molino as a free agent after the Trinidad & Tobago starred at Minnesota United FC.
