Wizards acquire two draft picks in seperate deals

Kansas City Wizards General Manager Curt Johnson announced today that the team has acquired two draft picks in separate deals, trading away the rights to two former Wizards - midfielder Diego Walsh and defender Taylor Graham.

The Wizards acquired a 3rd round pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft from the MetroStars in exchange for the rights to Taylor Graham. The team also acquired a 3rd round 2007 MLS Supplemental pick from Real Salt Lake in exchange for the rights to Diego Walsh.

Graham spent two seasons on the Wizards developmental roster in 2003 and 2004 after being drafted in the 4th round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in 19 matches, including seven starts, during his two seasons in Kansas City. He was not signed to the senior roster prior to the 2005 season, but the Wizards retained his rights.

Walsh was acquired in exchange for a conditional draft pick in a trade with Columbus prior to the 2004 season. He appeared in 16 matches, including 11 starts, in two seasons before being released on September 9, 2005. The Wizards retained his rights upon him clearing waivers.

Last week, the Wizards waived five players including forward Antti Sumiala, defenders Dustin Branan and Daniel Dobson, midfielder Doug Lascody, and goalkeeper Martin Hutton.
