Jozy Altidore - side eye - Toronto FC

The US men's national team is back in session, and with a familiar face in Jozy Altidore. The Toronto FC forward occupies a pretty unique place in the player pool as perhaps the most talented forward of the group, but injury worries and plenty of competition for a spot brings the Extratime to wonder: What is Altidore's future with the national team?

"None of these kids are wanting to wait their turn," Matt Doyle said on the latest episode. "Every single one of them wants to get out there and beat whoever's in front of them and that means Jozy and that means Gyasi [Zardes] and that means [Josh] Sargent so it's what you want. It's a good problem to have and hopefully Jozy is up for the challenge."

The Extratime crew outlined the growing competition for the USMNT striker role, with Zardes and Sargent also joined by the likes of Altidore's Toronto FC teammate Ayo Akinola, Orlando City's Dary Dike and European-based forwards like Sebastian Soto and Nicholas Gioacchini. But with the World Cup coming up in 2022 Qatar, Altidore will not want to miss out on the chance to net a first World Cup goal.
