GALAXY HOST CHIVAS USA IN FIRST EDITION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CLÁSICO: The highly anticipated first-ever meeting between the Los Angeles Galaxy and expansion side CD Chivas USA is set for this Saturday, April 23 at 7:00 pm (PT) at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. The first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive Galaxy Gold Bangers, courtesy of game sponsor Verizon Wireless.


Both teams and their fans circled this inaugural Southern California Clásico on their calendars the moment schedules were released in January, the first-ever battle between the MLS powerhouse Galaxy and Mexican-rooted newcomer Chivas USA. The Galaxy enter the match strong, coming off an impressive 3-1 handling of Real Salt Lake in their April 9 home opener and two exhibition wins last week. Chivas, meanwhile, are coming off a 3-1 defeat to FC Dallas on the weekend.


The game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes and will also be available to Southland listeners on radio in English (1540 am KMPC) and Spanish (830 am KXME). In addition to its game coverage, ESPN Deportes will feature a live, on-site production of SportsCenter, Fútbol Picante, and Cronómetro, as well as a pre-game show originating from the Southeast Plaza of The Home Depot Center, all of which will be centered on the historic match.


SINGLE-GAME TICKETS ON SALE FOR SATURDAY'S GALAXY-CHIVAS USA TILT: Single game tickets for the first edition of the Southern California Clásico, are still on sale. Galaxy fans looking to buy tickets specifically for this historic encounter will be able to through TicketMaster and the box office at The Home Depot Center. Additionally, the club is offering its fans two special ticket packages featuring that game. The options are:


a) The Galaxy Gold 4 Pack, which includes four center sideline or reserved sideline seats for the Chivas USA game on April 23 and four Galaxy Gold T-shirts, all for just $200.

b) The Celebration Pack, which includes one center or reserved sideline seat for the Chivas USA game on April 23, one center or reserved sideline seat for the Galaxy's home match against FC Dallas on April 30 Game and one Galaxy Gold T-shirt for only $97.

GALAXY SHUT DOWN PORTLAND TIMBERS, 1-0: The Los Angeles Galaxy shut out the Portland Timbers of the USL First Division, 1-0, on a cold and rainy night at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon. L.A. Galaxy midfielder Herculez Gomez scored the game's lone goal in the 38th minute with an assist from forward Landon Donovan. In a driving rain storm through most of game, the L.A. Galaxy controlled the play from the first whistle keeping the majority of the possession.


GALAXY DRUB GAUCHOS ON THE WEEKEND: The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the San Diego Gauchos of the USL's Premier Development League, 4-0, last Saturday, in a charity match benefiting Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at Channel Islands High School in Oxnard, CA. Galaxy midfielder Ned Grabavoy earned man of the match honors with his two goals in the 15th and 31st minutes, while forward Joseph Ngwenya and defender Michael Umaña contributed a goal each.


COBI JONES MAKES AN APPEARANCE ON ESPN'S BOWLING NIGHT THIS TUESDAY: Cobi Jones will represent the Galaxy and Major League Soccer on April 19 on an episode of Bowling Night, a celebrity bowling show on ESPN. This week's show will air from 5-5:30 pm (PT).
