BURPO IN THE SPOTLIGHT: With the departure of Brad Guzan to the national team, Chivas USA's match against the Revolution could mark the return of Preston Burpo as Chivas USA's starting goalkeeper. After nine years with the Seattle Sounders, Burpo made his MLS debut in 2006, when Burpo started 19 regular season games in 2006 and registered 5 shutouts and a 1.21 GAA, playing a key role in Chivas USA's qualifying for the 2006 MLS Cup Playoffs.


JORGE FLORES TRAINS WITH RESERVES: Sueño MLS Winner Jorge Flores began training with Chivas USA's 28-man roster on Monday June 25. The forward first joined Chivas USA's U-19 team on March 2007 after winning Sueño MLS, a nationwide competition held to discover the next MLS star. On June 19, the opening day of the U-19's six-day tour of Mexico, Flores scored two goals against Club Deportivo Guadalajara's Segunda División team. He also registered an assist in the 1-1 tie against Atlas, and logged another goal on June 22 in a win over Tecos. Following his performance in Guadalajara, Flores was invited to train with the senior team starting this week.


U-19'S FINISH STRONG IN MEXICO: Chivas USA's U-19 team capped off a six-day tour of Mexico on June 23 with a 5-4 win over Tecos UAG. On the first day of the trip, Chivas USA's U-19 Team fell 6-3 to the Segunda División side of sister team Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Sueño MLS Winner Jorge Flores scored two goals for the Chivas USA U-19's, but it was not enough as the MLS side gave up six goals to their Mexican counterparts. On the June 21, Forward Chris Cortez scored a second-half equalizer for the Red-and-White on an assist from Flores to claim a draw for the visitors against the older and more experienced Atlas side, which plays in Mexico's Primera 'A', or second tier. In the third match, Chivas USA and Chivas San Rafael tied 0-0. In the June 23 win over Tecos, Chivas came from behind against an older and more experienced squad, made up of players from Tecos' Segunda División and Primera 'A' teams. Five different players scored for Chivas USA - including a late-game winner from second-half sub Eddie Gutiérrez with just 15 minutes remaining in the match.
