Weekly Update: Double the fun

RED BULLS FACE REVS, FC DALLAS THIS WEEK:
The New York Red Bulls (4-4-3, 15 pts.) will have two games this week, first taking on Eastern Conference rival, the New England Revolution (8-3-2, 26 pts.) on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM at Gillette Stadium (TV: MSG Plus, Radio: WADO) before hosting FC Dallas (4-5-4, 16 pts.) at Giants Stadium on Saturday night at 7:30 PM (TV: Fox Soccer Channel, Radio: WADO).

New England has the best record in MLS and is on fire at the moment, currently 5-0-1 in their last six and matching the longest unbeaten run in MLS this season. Last Thursday, the Revolution defeated defending MLS Cup champion, the Houston Dynamo, 2-0, at Robertson Stadium. Steve Ralston put the visitors in front in the 8th minute before Kheli Dube added to the lead 10 minutes before halftime. Goalkeeper Matt Reis continued his strong start to the season, earning his league-leading fifth shutout of the year and saving a Stuart Holden penalty kick in the second half.

Prior to Thursday's match with Houston, a career night from Reis on June 6 included a career-high 10 saves, which helped New England to a 2-1 win and their fifth straight win over FC Dallas.

Dube leads the Revolution in goals (4), while Ralston leads the club in assists (3). Ralston and Adam Cristman have each found the back of the net three times this season.

This is the second of three games between the Red Bulls and Revs. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw on April 19 at Giants Stadium. Jozy Altidore put the hosts up in the first half with a 30th minute goal before a Jeff Larentowicz 56th minute free kick helped New England earn the tie.

New York has not produced a result at New England since a 1-1 draw on May 22, 2004. Jeff Parke and Chris Leitch started that match, and Mike Magee and John Wolyniec appeared as substitutes. New York has not posted a win at New England since a 2-0 win on June 29, 2002. That win was part of New York's best stretch of matches vs. the Revolution (8-1-1).

FC Dallas then comes into town for their second of two matches against the Red Bulls this season. The Hoops earned a 1-0 win against the Chicago Fire on Sunday at Pizza Hut Park. Forward Kenny Cooper scored his seventh goal of the season in the 17th minute and goalkeeper Dario Sala earned his fourth shutout, handing the Fire their first road loss of the year.

FC Dallas also handed the Red Bulls their first loss of 2008, a 2-0 decision, on April 12, at Pizza Hut Park. Arturo Alvarez put the hosts up in the first minute with a header past goalkeeper Jon Conway and Cooper doubled FC Dallas' advantage with a goal of his own in the second half.

SOME QUICK RED BULLS-REVOLUTION FACTS: The New York-New England rivalry dates back to the inaugural MLS season. The Red Bulls are 16-23-8 all-time against their Eastern Conference rival. New York has only faced D.C. United more times in the team's history (48). The Red Bulls are 4-15-3 on the road against the Revolution.

Here are some other quick facts:
-- Last season, the Revolution had won the previous five meetings between the sides before the teams played to a 1-1 draw at Giants Stadium on Sept. 22.
-- The last New York win at Gillette Stadium came on June 29, 2002 and the Revolution currently boast a six-game winning streak at Foxboro. The teams have met in the MLS Cup playoffs in three of the past five MLS seasons, with New England winning all three matches.
-- New England midfielder Shalrie Joseph recorded his first career two-goal game against New York on Sept. 17, 2005, and also added an assist in that game.
-- Current season-leader in assists Steve Ralston's assist on Taylor Twellman's goal on May 21, 2005 against the MetroStars at Giants Stadium gave Ralston 36 career assists, a Revolution record.

HE'S BACK: This will be the first regular season match for Juan Carlos Osorio at Gillette Stadium, but not his first appearance. He led the Chicago Fire to the Eastern Conference finals last season, dropping a 1-0 decision to the New England Revolution on November 8.
