Vancouver Whitecaps FC sign GK Isaac Boehmer to Homegrown deal

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Monday. Boehmer is signed through the end of the season with further club options for future seasons.

Boehmer, 18, joins the first team after the club were down to third string GK Thomas Hasal at the MLS is Back Tournament with no backup 'keeper in their final game. Starter Maxime Crepeau underwent surgery for a broken thumb last month while backup Bryan Meredith left the team at the tournament after the passing of his mother.

“Isaac was with our first team in preseason and has worked hard to improve while developing in our academy system,” sporting director and CEO Axel Schuster said in a statement. "We are in a unique situation and this is a good opportunity for him to continue working with our first team and goalkeeper coach Youssef Dahha.”

Boehmer is the 23rd player to sign a Homegrown contract with the Canadian club. He made 14 starts over two seasons for the U-19 academy side and had a training stint with German club Schalke in 2016.

“This means everything to me,” said Boehmer. “I’m very thankful to all the people who have helped me along the way, especially my family. Starting at a young age with the ‘Caps, we drove five hours to training sessions on Friday nights and five hours back. I’m going to continue to work hard, grow as a player here in Vancouver and most importantly help the team.”
