Steve Nash waves to Whitecaps crowd at BC Place

Steve Nash is expanding his soccer footprint across the globe.

Already a part-owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps since 2008, the former NBA star is part of a group that purchased a controlling share of Spanish second division club Real Mallorca.

According to an Associated Press report this morning, Nash, Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver and Suns vice chairman Andy Kohlberg bought shares worth more than 20 million euros ($21 million).

Real Mallorca played in La Liga for 16 straight seasons before being relegated to the second division in 2013. The club declared bankruptcy in 2010.

A lifelong soccer fanatic, Nash is a diehard Tottenham fan and has been a visible face of the Whitecaps since before they entered MLS.
