The Vancouver Whitecaps and midfielder Jon Erice have agreed to a mutual contract termination, the club announced Wednesday morning.

“Jon was a fantastic teammate during his time in Vancouver. He was always ready and willing to help the team in what was needed from him,” Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos said in a statement. “We made this decision based on how we see this team moving forward. We wish Jon and his family all the very best.”

Erice joined the Whitecaps last January in a transfer from Spanish club Albacete Balompié. The 33-year-old started 21 regular season games and had a pair of assists.

“Today I say goodbye to a great city, a great league, and a great club,” Erice said. “I can only say thanks to Vancouver Whitecaps FC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of an incredible project that is sure to earn great results in the near future. Thanks to all the employees who are a part of the family and are essential for everything to work daily. Thanks to the city of Vancouver for receiving me so well. Good luck and the greatest success for the present and the future.”
