U.S. Open Cup final game notes

The New England Revolution will battle for its first cup trophy in club history when it travels to Texas to face FC Dallas on Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the final of the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The game will kick off 8 p.m. ET and will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel.

The Revs are making their second appearance in the finals, while Dallas is making its third. The Revolution advanced to the championship game in 2001, falling to the Los Angeles Galaxy, 2-1, in overtime in Fullerton, Calif. Dallas won the 1997 U.S. Open Cup, defeating D.C. United in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw, and then lost to Los Angeles, 1-0, in the 2005 final in Carson, Calif.

The teams will be meeting for the third time this season, with the Revs winning both of the previous MLS regular-season matches already played. On April 29, New England used Taylor Twellman's 13th minute goal and two Matt Reis saves to claim a 1-0 victory at Pizza Hut Park. More recently, the Revs took a 4-2 victory at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 15. Pat Noonan scored two goals to lead the Revolution to its third-straight win against Dallas.

Wednesday's meeting in the final will be the teams' first-ever match outside of MLS regular-season play. The Revs hold a 19-9-1 advantage in the all-time series with Dallas and are 12-3-0 in the last 15 contests between the clubs.
