Toronto FC have signed winger Nicolas Benezet on loan with an option to buy from French Ligue 2 side Guingamp using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), the club announced Tuesday.

The 28-year-old will be added to the roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

ā€œWeā€™re very excited to add Nico to the team. Heā€™s an experienced player that can play multiple attacking positions. Heā€™s played at the highest level in France, and we feel he can play a positive role in helping us achieve our 2019 goals,ā€ Toronto FC general manager Ali Curtis said in a statement.

Benezet, who came up through the Montpellier youth academy before joining NƮmes B at the age of 13, had 12 goals and 10 assists in 86 overall appearances for Guingamp.

He made his professional debut for Nimes Olympique, where he had 11 goals and 12 assists in 59 appearances over the course of three seasons. During that time, he also went on loan to Evian in Ligue 1, making 42 appearances in two seasons.

Benezet, a former French youth international who scored twice in the three appearances with the U-20 national team, went on loan to SM Caen in 2015, appearing in 12 matches and scored four goals.
