Pierre Barrieu - LA Galaxy - Toronto FC hire

Toronto FC have hired former US men's national team strength and conditioning coach Pierre Barrieu as their Director of High Performance, per a Monday release from the club.

Barrieu comes to Toronto from the LA Galaxy, where he had served as the team's director of sports performance since 2017.

A native of Thionville, France, Barrieu worked as the strength and conditioning coach for the USMNT under both Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley from 2002-06 and 2008-11, spending the 2002 and 2006 World Cup with Arena and the 2010 World Cup under Bradley. He also worked as head fitness coach for the United Arab Emirates national team and as an assistant coach for the UAE's U-19 side.

“Pierre brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our club having worked at the highest levels of the game,” Toronto general manager Ali Curtis said in Monday's release. “[The club is] excited about the positive impact he will have on our team’s overall health, fitness and conditioning.”

At the club level, Barrieu has also worked for the New York Red Bulls, Sheffield Wednesday F.C., Le Havre AC and Swansea City before he joined the Galaxy in 2017. Barrieu has also served as a High Performance Expert and instructor with FIFA since 2014. He holds two “A” coaching licenses from UEFA and the US Soccer Federation.
