Toronto FC attacker Sebastian Giovinco wins Etihad Airways Player of the Month award for August

Sebastian Giovinco has done it again.

Toronto FC’s “Atomic Ant” took home his second straight Etihad Airways Player of the Month award on Thursday, winning the August voting with 28.48 percent of the vote. The award caps off another stunning month in Giovinco’s MVP-caliber season, with the Italian international recording four goals and three assists to help TFC to a 3-2-0 record in August.

Giovinco’s standout match came in the first contest of the month, when he recorded a hat trick – his second of the season – in Toronto’s 4-1 home win against Orlando City SC on Aug. 5. He also shined in TFC’s other two August wins, scoring and assisting in the club’s 5-0 win against Orlando on Aug. 22 and adding another assist before leaving due to an adductor injury in last Saturday’s win against Canadian rival Montreal Impact.

The performances helped TFC cement their spot in the Eastern Conference playoff places, with fourth-place Toronto now sitting nine points ahead seventh-place Montreal with nine games remaining. Giovinco’s fine form also netted him a call-up to the Italian national team, though he won’t participate in the Azzurri’s upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers due to his injury.

San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham finished second in the voting with 19.7 percent, with LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane (18.21 percent), New York Red Bulls midfielder Sacha Kljestan (16.82 percent) and Columbus Crew SC forward Kei Kamara (16.78 percent) rounding out the field.
