Toronto FC 1, New York Red Bulls 1 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Caden Clark scored an equalizing golazo, the 17-year-old’s second goal in as many games, as the New York Red Bulls rallied to earn a 1-1 draw against Supporters' Shield-leading Toronto FC Wednesday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

Clark, who scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Atlanta United Saturday just hours after officially joining the team, was part of a double substitution in the 59th minute, and his second goal in a Red Bulls uniform was even better than the first.

Clark dug Marc Rzatkowski’s pass out of his feet, fended off Marky Delgado and fired a blast into the side netting in the 77th minute to level. He also made history in the process.

Alejandro Pozuelo put Toronto FC in front in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot, putting his low spot kick to the right of a rooted Ryan Meara after Dru Yearwood handled Ayo Akinola’s attempt in the box.

The Red Bulls pushed for the equalizer and had several chances with an apparent Yearwood equalizer in the 33rd minute called back when Tom Barlow was in an offside position while Barlow and Florian Valot also squandered clear opportunities.

But Clark wouldn’t miss, and his stunner is what earned the Red Bulls a valuable point.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Toronto have made a habit of grinding out 1-0 wins — that was the scoreline three times in a five-match winning streak that was snapped Wednesday night. How costly will these dropped points be in the Shield race? For the Red Bulls, a star is born with Clark securing a well-earned draw.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: There could be no other than this wondergoal from the wunderkind. Enjoy it again (unless you’re a TFC supporter).

  • MAN OF THE MATCH
: Clark was decisive in taking his chance, coming off the bench to “bail us out again,” interim coach Bradley Carnell said after the match. However, Tim Parker is pumping the brakes on the Clark hype train.
