You knew the Timbers Army wouldnāt let Jack Jewsbury leave Portland without a retirement gift.
The supportersā group came through in a big way for the first captain in the clubās MLS history, presenting the retiring 35-year-old midfielder with an axe, a picture of which Jewsbury posted to Twitter on Friday.
The axe handle is inscribed with the words āForever our Captain. Thank you,ā and the blade itself is very real, according to Jewsbury.
One of a select group of players to appear in more than 300 career MLS games, Jewsbury ended his career with 352 career regular season appearances, 281 starts, 28 goals and 37 assists.
Heās in the top five in several Timbers career statistical categories, including ranking third in Portland history in MLS games played, MLS starts and MLS minutes played.
