MLS lost a legend on September 5 when former FC Dallas player and team broadcaster Bobby Rhine passed away of a sudden heart attack. He was 35.

The franchise icon spent more than a decade with the organization as a player, a member of the front office and in the broadcast booth. Rhine was a second-team All-American at the University of Connecticut, he was drafted sixth overall by the Dallas Burn in 1999 and would score 23 goals in 212 appearances before retiring in 2008.

ESPN commentator and fellow MLS alum Taylor Twellman was among the many friends and fans who took to Twitter to express their grief.

FC Dallas paid tribute to Rhine in a September 17 home match against the New York Red Bulls, wearing black armbands and observing a moment of silence. The players pressed on with heavy hearts as they dedicated the remainder of their season to his memory.
