Sporting KC captain Matt Besler writes message to fans amid struggles

Sporting Kansas City have been a perennial power in MLS for much of the last decade, but times have been tough lately when it comes to results.

A slew of injuries and international absences have left them shorthanded in recent weeks, and they have slumped to 10th place in the Western Conference, three points below the playoff line.

But with the league in a break in play this weekend for the Concacaf Gold Cup, Sporting captain Matt Besler wrote a message he shared on social media explaining the struggles for the team, the context and vows to turn things around in the second half of the season.

"Now we're getting healthier, but we clearly still have a lot of work ahead," he writes. "We've got to get better defensively. We simply can't allow some of the goals we've been giving up."
