Shorthanded Sporting Kansas City will try to snap a six-match winless streak when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps in a showdown of Western Conference foes at Children's Mercy Park Saturday night.
SKC (2-4-4) are coming off a 1-0 loss at D.C. United on Sunday, their second straight shutout defeat following a 3-0 home loss to Atlanta United. They had only four bench players at Audi Field because of a bevy of long-term injuries and the international call-up of Gianluca Busio to the US U-17 squad.
The Whitecaps (3-6-3) are one point below the playoff line in the West following a 1-0 home loss to Atlanta United Wednesday night with Josef Martinez scoring the lone goal from the penalty spot, snapping the 'Caps three-game unbeaten run.
Sporting have scored 10 goals in their last two encounters with Vancouver, including a 6-0 win at Children's Mercy Park last April with Johnny Russell netting a hat trick.
