Sporting Kansas City honors longtime fan with special banner at MLS is Back Tournament

Barb Goebel - banner - sporting kansas city

The memory of Barb Goebel, a longtime Sporting Kansas City season ticket member and part of The Cauldron supporters’ group who died in a cycling accident in April, is being honored during the club’s MLS is Back Tournament Group D opener Sunday night against Minnesota United.

A banner reading “Always in our hearts” and featuring a profile shot of Goebel will hang behind their bench. In addition, captain Matt Besler will have her name written on his jersey's MLS Unites patch.

To learn more about Goebel’s backstory, check out this feature piece on SKC’s website. She was a founding member of the Ladies of SKC supporters section, and was an ever-constant at games, charity events, tifo paintings and social gatherings.

Goebel's SKC fandom truly reached another gear when the club rebranded from the Kansas City Wizards to their current iteration and opened Children's Mercy Park. Judging by the tifo and Besler's gesture, she left quite the impact.
