"It makes me very happy. It makes me work harder every day during practices, to do things to the best of my abilities, things which are then applied in games. I am very happy because, like I said, you set challenges in your career."


Is Cuauhtémoc Blanco going to stay with the Chicago Fire?

"Yes, let's hope so. My contract is ending and I want to stay, but we'll have to see what the club's executives will say."


What comes after MLS for Cuauhtémoc Blanco?

"You never know when a soccer player's career will end. You have to know when to retire. I would love to coach. I want to prepare myself for that once I have retired."


Would you like to be head coach of Club América?

"Any team is fine ... you have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Honestly, I don't mind coaching another team, but in the long run I would love to coach América."


Thanks to the great level of play you have displayed with the Fire, Javier Aguirre has never doubted you as a standout player with the Mexican national team. How do you repay that confidence that has been entrusted in you, not only by the coach but an entire country as well?

"I work hard and I try to adjust to my teammates. This World Cup qualifier is very important to me because you know that you would be giving your country a huge satisfaction with a ticket to the World Cup. We are in a tough situation right now but I believe we will never lose faith."


Is Cuauhtémoc Blanco the Mexican national team's coach on the field?

"No. ... I believe that everyone does their part to accomplish our overall objective."


After the Mexican national team's notable recovery, do you already see yourselves in the World Cup?

"Not yet. We have an important match coming up on October 10th in which we have to have a positive outcome."


Other than a high level of play, what does Javier Aguirre's national team have that past coaches did not?

"Work! I believe that this team works hard and has great personality, a personality in which we never will give up."


How do you approach these upcoming games against El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago?

"With seriousness. We should not get comfortable and always keep the mentality that we have not qualified yet, and with a lot of personality."


The Mexican national team has begun its preparation, and a friendly match with Colombia is ahead. How do you analyze this match and how much does it help Mexico?

"It will be helpful for the coach to try new players out. It is useful for him because he has called up new players and this is important for them, these players must take advantage of this opportunity."


Were you surprised by the call-up of young Jonathan Dos Santos?

"Well he is in fact a young player, but it is the coach's decision. He has to take advantage of this great opportunity that has been given to him."


For Hispanic Heritage Month, what message would you give to fellow Mexicans and the Latino community in general that live in the United States?

"All I could say it for them to fight, to give their best effort in everything they do, and to set goals for themselves, which is the most important thing. For them to believe that they can accomplish important things, both in their lives and in their jobs."
