Victor Pálsson’s first season in MLS has not gone as well as expected, and it appears he is on his way to the Netherlands to help further his development.
Sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Monday that the team is close to a deal that will loan Pálsson to an unspecified Dutch club for the remainder of the MLS season. The Icelandic central midfielder is currently en route to Europe and will not be with the Red Bulls for their upcoming match on Wednesday against rivals D.C. United (8 pm ET, Galavision).
The 21-year-old Pálsson started four of the 16 regular season matches he played in with the club, but struggled to make a consistent impact. He has not scored or assisted on a goal this year, and he has not started a match for the club since logging 61 minutes against Chicago on July 18.
