Dom Dwyer and new son Cassius Cruz Dwyer

Dom Dwyer's 13th MLS goal of the year turned out to be an especially lucky one.

The Sporting Kansas City forward and his wife, US women's national team and FC Kansas City striker Sydney Leroux, welcomed their first son into the world one day after Dwyer scored against the Houston Dynamo at Children's Mercy Park on Friday night.

Leroux gave birth to Cassius Cruz Dwyer on Saturday, bringing great joy to the Dwyer/Leroux clan and sparking extremely premature predictions about his prospects as a great American goalscorer of the future.

Dwyer got an early jump on the celebrations, marking Friday's goal with the classic “ball under the shirt” tribute to his wife, and both have shared heartwarming images on their respective social-media accounts.

Should he grow into a talent on par with his parents, Cassius Dwyer would appear to have a rich set of options for his international career. Dwyer is English by birth, while Leroux holds dual Canadian and US eligibility, having played with Canada's youth national teams before committing to the Stars and Stripes at senior level.

Leroux and Dwyer's new arrival comes just over a week after his SKC teammate Matt Besler and his wife welcomed their first child into the world on the same day Besler scored his first international goal in the US national team's 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
