Sevilla, Barca paired in Copa del Rey draw

MADRID - Holders Sevilla have been paired against Barcelona in the pick of the ties during Friday's draw for the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Sevilla won the Copa del Rey for only the fourth time in their history last season when they beat Getafe 1-0 in the final, ending a wait of almost 60 years since the last time the Andalusian club got their hands on the trophy.

In contrast, Barca have walked off with the cup on 24 occasions, although they have not held the title since 1998.

Spanish champions Real Madrid have to go back even further for their last Copa del Rey triumph, and they will continue their quest for a first cup crown since 1993 with a clash against Real Mallorca.

Only Primera Liga teams have survived to reach this stage of the tournament, with the last of the lower league sides falling in the round of 32 this week.

The first leg matches will take place next Wednesday and the return matches on January 16.
