Savarese: Diego Valeri is available for Portland Timbers MLS Cup Playoffs match

Diego Valeri - Portland Timbers - Celebrate

After sitting out the club's Decision Day win to get into the playoffs with a calf injury, Portland Timbers star midfielder Diego Valeri is ready to go for the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.

The Timbers travel to face Real Salt Lake in Round One on Saturday (10 pm ET | ESPNNews, TVAS, TSN) and are expecting to have their talisman.

“He’s training fully,” head coach Giovanni Savarese told reporters Wednesday, via Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian. “He will be available for this weekend.”

Valeri, 33, anchored the Timbers' road-heavy run to 2018 MLS Cup last season. He had eight goals and a career-high 16 assists this campaign and is now up to 76 goals and 81 assists in his MLS career.

The Argentine's future has come under question in recent weeks as it was reported he and Portland reached a contract impasse. Valeri in late September declined to comment on his contract situation until after the Timbers' season is over.
