a letter to fans
, both the new logo (right) and the Quakes' 2014 away jersey hearken back to the team's 1974 foundation as a member ofthe North American Soccer League while the blue top/black shorts/blue socks combination of the home uniform will resemble the look the team sported in MLS from 2000-05.

“This is a momentous day for the San Jose Earthquakes as we continue to shape the identity of this club to match its rich history and community ties,” said Kaval in a statement. “After consulting with fans, former players, staff and community stakeholders, we established three pillars for the club: Unity, Devotion, Heritage. Each of those pillars was integrated into the design of our new logo and will define the organization going forward.”
