San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Gilbert Fuentes underwent surgery this past Thursday to repair a broken clavicle, the club announced. The injury was sustained during an at-home accident, and no specific timeline for his recovery was announced.

Fuentes, 18, signed a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose ahead of the 2018 campaign, and was then the youngest signing in club history. Heā€™s since made two appearances off the bench, totaling three minutes of MLS action.

Most of Fuentesā€™ playing time has come on loan at USL Championship club Reno 1868 FC, where heā€™s made 16 appearances and scored in their 2020 season opener against the Tacoma Defiance. On the international scene, Fuentes has featured extensively for the US U-17 national team.

Fuentes is one of eight Homegrowns on San Joseā€™s roster, with five aged 18 or younger.
