Russell Wilson responds to Chicharito signing: Seattle's the place for the world's best soccer players

It seems that everyone has something to say about Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez's arrival in MLS with the LA Galaxy, including those with a stake in ensuring the Mexican superstar doesn't fulfill his stated desire to bring several more MLS Cup triumphs to the Galaxy.

Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks may have lost out on the chance of another Super Bowl triumph this year, but the star quarterback remains focused on ensuring further success for his other team: The Seattle Sounders.

Responding to a question about Hernandez's transfer, Wilson, a part-owner of the current MLS Cup champions, was keen to talk up the Sounders as the premier destination for the world's top players.

"Well obviously Chicharito is an amazing player, he's coming to MLS, LA Galaxy," Wilson told a scrum of reporters during practice ahead of Sunday's Pro Bowl in Orlando. "I'm a Sounders guy, though, I have ownership of the Sounders, Ciara and I. So we want to make sure we get some of the best players in the world into Seattle. Any of the best soccer players in the world, Seattle's the place. Sounders, baby."

Wilson's Sounders will get the chance to test themselves against Chicharito and the LA Galaxy for the first time when they visit Los Angeles on June 21, before the Galaxy head to Seattle on September 13.

Since winning MLS Cup for the second time in November, the Sounders have been relatively quiet in the offseason, with the club biding their time before making any major additions. After starting preseason just over a week ago, Brian Schmetzer's team will need to be up-and-running in short order, as they head into Concacaf Champions League action against Olimpia on February 20.
