RSL announce Findley will try luck overseas

A statement released by Real Salt Lake said forward Robbie Findley will try his luck overseas.

Real Salt Lake on Monday announced the names of the 11 players they would protect for Wednesday’s Expansion Draft, and forward Robbie Findley’s name was not on the list.

According to the club, Findley has decided that his future lies elsewhere.

“Robbie Findley has informed us that he has offers overseas and will be pursuing an opportunity outside of MLS as the next step in his career,” said RSL in a statement.

[inline_node:314743]Findley arrived in Salt Lake midway through the 2007 campaign via trade with the LA Galaxy. Over his two-and-a-half years wearing the Claret-and-Cobalt, the Phoenix native has led the team in goals with 29.

Findley’s speed and productivity caught the eye of US national team head coach Bob Bradley, who included the striker in his squad for the 2010 World Cup.

There, the forward played in all of the games for which he was available. However, back with his club, this season was his least productive, as he registered only five goals on the campaign.

Rumors have again linked Findley with Brondby, currently in third place in the Danish Superliga. Findley was on trial with Brondby prior to the start of the 2009 season, and recent reports in Denmark indicate that the team is looking at the American as a possibility to bolster its attack.

“We respect his decision and thank him for his immensely valuable contributions to RSL, as we could not have won a championship without him,” RSL said. “We wish Robbie the best of luck with his future endeavors.”
