Roundup: Galaxy, Chivas cruise

It was a relatively quiet weekend for Major League Soccer teams in preseason training, with just three teams in action between Friday and Sunday. The Los Angeles Galaxy, Toronto FC and Chivas USA each recorded victories over non-MLS sides.

The Galaxy defeated the Bermuda national team 4-0 at the National Sports Complex in Hamilton, Bermuda, on Friday. Though high winds and some rain marred the affair, the Galaxy got goals from Gavin Glinton, Michael Randolph, Robbie Findley and John Thorrington to record the victory.

Glinton, a Turks and Caicos international, put the visitors up in the 27th minute with a shot from 15 yards, while Randolph doubled the lead before the halftime break. Findley notched his second goal of the preseason in the 71st minute when he put home a Santino Quaranta free kick. The rout was completed eight minutes before the final whistle when John Thorrington, formerly of the Chicago Fire, buried a shot from the top of the box.

On the East Coast, Toronto FC recorded a 3-2 win against Lynn University in Sunrise, Fla., Edson Buddle carrying the expansion side with a hat trick. The striker, who spent the 2006 MLS season as a member of the New York Red Bulls scored all three goals in a 13-minute span. The win was a nice way for Mo Johnston's men to complete their camp, as they headed back to Toronto on Saturday. The club will train in Canada until March 5, when they will return to the Sunshine State.

Chivas USA rounded out the weekend's preseason action with a solid 5-0 win against Fresno Fuego of the Premier Development League (PDL). Draftee John Cunliffe led the way with two goals, including the game's opener in the 21st minute. The Englishman also recorded an assist, setting up Lawson Vaughn. Matt Taylor and Lyle Martin each found the net for Chivas to finish with five.
