It sounds like Roman Torres will be sticking around Seattle for a few more years.

The veteran center back told reporters at MLS Media Day in Los Angeles on Saturday that he is “close to finishing a new contract with Seattle” and that he hopes “to stay here in MLS for many more years.”

The comments come on the heels of a Friday report from Seattle-based reporter Niko Moreno that Torres is “very close” to signing a deal at least through 2020.

Torres, 31, signed with Seattle in the summer of 2015. He scored the penalty that won the Sounders MLS Cup 2016 and appeared in 23 regular-season and four playoff matches to help the team to a second straight appearance at MLS Cup this year. The longtime Panama international played a huge role in helping his country qualify for their first ever World Cup, scoring the goal that clinched their berth in Russia 2018.
