Reserves: FC Dallas 1, Real Salt Lake 0

Frisco, TX - The FC Dallas Reserves today defeated the Real Salt Lake Reserves 1-0 in a game played on the adidas Field at Pizza Hut Park. FCD rookie forward Scott Jones scored the lone goal in the second half to give the FCD Reserves their first win of the year (1-2-0, 3 pts). The RSL Reserves are still seeking their first win, dropping to 0-3-0 on the season.

FC Dallas dictated play much of the first half, keeping possession on the RSL end of the field and attacking from the right flank. Fifteen minutes in, Ramon Nunez sent in a 40-yard free kick into the area from the right side, finding Scott Jones who was able to redirect a header that sailed wide left. Midfielder Sandi Gbandi also came close to scoring, narrowly missing a strike wide left from the top of the penalty area in the 23rd minute. Bobby Rhine was active down the right, combining with Abe Thompson and sending in dangerous centers inside the box.

Neither team made any subs coming off the halftime break, and Dallas kept pushing forward. Left-sided midfielder David Wagenfuhr continuously found himself open, ripping four shots in the first ten minutes of the second half, once denied by a diving save from Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Kyle Reynish and once missing wide left on a volley from inside the box.

Dallas finally broke through the 68th minute came after Rhine lofted a ball over Real Salt Lake's back line, finding Scott Jones just outside the box. Jones took one touch forward towards the left, and and hit a low shot underneath the body of outstretched Reynish for his first goal of the season.

Real Salt Lake pressed late in the match and threatened to draw even in the 76th minute, when Jamie Watson took a cross from the right side, and fired a point-blank shot from 10 yards that was saved by Dallas keeper Ray Burse.

RSL had one final chance just before the final whistle. Kyle Brown turned on FC Dallas defender Ricky Lewis inside the box and hit a hard right-footed shot that was again denied by Burse.

The FCD Reserves will take on the Chivas USA Reserves on Sunday, May 27 at The Home Depot Center. The Real Salt Lake Reserves do not play again until July 29, when they take on New England at home.
