After being heavily linked with FC Cincinnati during the offseason, former US men’s national team striker Bobby Wood is now a transfer target for D.C. United, according to a report from Kristian Dyer.

The report then picked up more steam, with Steven Goff of The Washington Post confirming that there's interest from the Black-and-Red. He added that they have a discovery claim on the forward, too.

Wood, 27, finds himself in a rut at 2. Bundesliga club Hamburger SV, where he hasn’t made an appearance since Nov. 29, 2019 in a league game against VfL Osnabruck. He’s appeared on the bench as of late, but only made six appearances this season without scoring.

Wood broke into the USMNT under former coach Jurgen Klinsmann and has earned 45 caps with 13 goals. That momentum coincided with his 2015-16 season at 1. FC Union Berlin, when he netted a record-setting 17 goals for an American in either of Germany’s top two divisions.

Should Wood land with D.C. United, he’d provide another option up top as they look to find their attacking footing in life after Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta. They’ve already signed attacking pieces this offseason in Edison Flores, Erik Sorga and Julian Gressel, while Yamil Asad is back in the mix as well.

The Black-and-Red are led up top by Ola Kamara, who's scoreless through two matches. They’re coming off a 2-1 win over a 10-man Inter Miami CF side last weekend, though haven't scored from open play this season.
