Another South American player may be headed for MLS, with a report from TyC Sports in Argentina linking River Plate's Rafael Santos Barre to three MLS teams.

According to the report, Toronto FC, Minnesota United, and one of the New York teams are all interested in the 25-year-old; the report did not specify which New York team was in the running. Toronto reportedly hold the player's discovery rights.

However, the MLS teams will be in competition with teams from outside the league, namely Brazil's Palmeiras. Transfermarkt suggests that the reigning Copa Libertadores champions may lead the race for him. River Plate also remain interested in keeping the forward around, but are likely unable to match offers from any of the interested clubs.

Borre joined River in 2017, and has scored 24 goals in 71 games for the club. He was part of the team that won the Copa Libertadores in 2018 and the Copa Argentina in 2017 and 2018. He began his career at Deportivo Cali in 2013 before signing for Atletico Madrid in 2015. He did not play for the Spanish club, but spent a season on loan at Villarreal before joining River. He has two caps for Colombia.
