Report: Real Salt Lake defender Aaron Herrera drawing Serie A interest

Aaron Herrera - Real Salt Lake - In the snow

Aaron Herrera has established himself as one of Real Salt Lake's most consistent players over the past couple seasons, and the 23-year-old defender looks to have parlayed his emergence into some overseas interest.

According to a Friday report from SkySport Italia, several Serie A clubs are monitoring Herrera, one of which is reportedly Benevento Calcio, who are currently 11th on the league table. However, RSL have yet to be contacted about any move, a source told

It remains to be seen if the rumors and chatter lead to a move for the homegrown fullback, but the interest speaks to his upward trajectory since making his first-team debut in 2018. Herrera had his best season yet in 2020, starting all 20 of his appearances and playing nearly 1,800 minutes.

Back in July, now-retired teammate Kyle Beckerman stumped for Herrera's future US men's national team stock, citing him as one of RSL's most important players.

"From game one on he’s playing national team level soccer," Beckerman said. "He’s powerful, skillful and I really feel he’s taken his game to the next level and I’m excited to see that and what the future holds for him."
