Report: Philadelphia Union striker Cory Burke set for move to Austrian Bundesliga

Cory Burke - Philadelphia Union - tight shot

Philadelphia Union striker Cory Burke could be on his way to Europe with Austrian Bundesliga club SKN St. Polten, according to overseas reports. The 28-year-old Jamaica international would sign a loan deal until the end of the season, reports RJR Sports.

Kronen Zeitung includes a quote from SKN's coach Alexander Schmidt that the club will be bringing in a new striker and that they're working on a "great deal."

Burke, who developed at Bethlehem Steel (now Philadelphia Union II) before joining Philadelphia for the 2018 campaign, has not played in MLS since April 2019. In May last year, the club announced that he would miss an extended period of time due to visa issues.

"Cory is down in Jamaica to do his visa process and unfortunately it turned out he will not be coming back before three months, maybe even longer, which means that he is not available for the rest of the season due to personal issues," sporting director Ernst Tanner said at the time. "It's a little bit unlucky, I feel really sorry for the boy, but you know with these processes you don't have everything in your control.”

In September, Burke joined Jamaican club Portmore United FC on loan for the remainder of the 2019 season, where he scored 11 goals in 20 appearances. Prior to his visa issues, Burke began 2019 with two goals in seven appearances (five starts) after netting 10 times in 29 appearances (15 starts) during his debut season the prior year.
