New York City FC are close to attaining their desired No. 9, according to the New York Post.

City are nearing a deal using Targeted Allocation Money to sign Brazilian forward Heber from Croatian club HNK Rijeka, with the 27-year-old having already flown to Manchester to take a physical, The Post writes.

Heber is in his fourth season in Eastern Europe and second with the second-place Croatian side. He's posted double-digit goals in each of his previous three league campaigns is one shy of the mark again so far in 15 appearances this season.

The move could fill a gaping hole at the top of the formation for NYCFC, which has four forwards listed on its current roster but no one who plays a natural central striking role. Heber has mostly featured on the left wing while playing for Rejika but could also slot in as a striker.

Alexandru Mitrita has seen most of the time there so far, but he has likened himself to 2015 MLS MVP and Golden Boot winner Sebastian Giovinco, who excelled for Toronto FC for four seasons in a second-striker role behind Jozy Altidore or others.
