TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
A Moroccan international hopes to play in this summer’s World Cup, and believes an MLS move may be the best way to get there.
In a report in a British newspaper, Achraf Lazaar called his loan move from Newcastle United to Italian club Benevento last year a “bad decision,” adding that he believes signing with an MLS team can help revive his career.
Lazaar — a left back/left midfielder who’s made 17 appearances for the Moroccan national team — said there are three MLS clubs interested in his services but admitted the “red tape” may present challenges before he can go stateside. He’s currently still under contract with Newcastle United, on a one-year loan at Benevento.
