Monterrey defender Efrain Juarez is in negotiations to possibly join an unnamed MLS squad, Rayados manager Antonio Mohamed told reporters on Saturday.

Juarez wasn’t in the 18 for Monterrey’s Liga MX opener against Monarcas Morelia on Saturday, with Mohamed saying that he was left off the roster due to his ongoing negotiations on a move to MLS.

“Efrain Juarez has the possibility of going to the MLS, he is in negotiations and for that reason he is not with the squad,” Mohamed said.

Juarez, 29, joined Monterrey from Club America in June 2013. The right back has appeared in 96 Liga MX matches with the club, including 10 in the recently-completed Apertura campaign. The former Real Zaragoza, Celtic and Pumas player has 39 career caps with the Mexican national team, but none since 2012.
