Miguel Almiron - Atlanta United - celebrating goal - 2018 MLS Cup

A few days after winning MLS Cup, Atlanta United's Miguel Almiron appears to be on the move.

According to Bruno Pont of ABC Cardinal 730 AM earlier this week, Almiron will soon be a Newcastle United player after both clubs and player reached an agreement. Pont said Almiron will be a Newcastle player in a "few hours".

Walter Estigarribia adds that Almiron will be the most expensive player in Paraguayan history. The current record is £17.5 million, which Manchester City paid for striker Roque Santa Cruz in 2009.

Almiron, 24, tallied 12 goals and 14 assists in 31 games this season and overcame a hamstring injury to return in time for the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, where he helped lead his club to an MLS Cup triumph.

Atlanta United president Darren Eales said the club haven't received any concrete offers on Sky Sports on Wednesday morning.

Eales joined ExtraTime Radio on Wednesday morning and again disputed the reports.

"It definitely isn't done. There's nothing done yet," Eales told Andrew Wiebe. Before confirming that no deal is in place, Eales explained the situation the club is in regarding Almiron.

"It'll be interesting...Miggy is under contract for another three years. We've got an owner who likes winning and has had a taste of success. We know that we don't have to sell the player but clearly the way that we've built the club, the way that we've brought the young players in, if the right offer comes in [selling him] is something we'd consider."

Almiron has been a rumored target for Arsenal, West Ham and Tottenham in recent months. Newcastle have been the most heavily rumored of late.

Almiron's replacement may already be lined up as River Plate star "Pity" Martinez revealed after winning the Copa Libertadores that he would be moving to Atlanta.
