The first-ever player in MLS from Martinique is Portland Timbers striker Frederic Piquionne, but a compatriot of his could be on the way to the Pacific Northwest.
A report out of the Caribbean island on Wednesday claims striker Kevin Parsemain is on his way to the Seattle Sounders. The 25-year-old once played in France with Le Mans' reserve team but more recently featured in his domestic league for Rivière-Pilote, where he reportedly won the league scoring title in 2010-11 with 20 goals in 24 games.
Parsemain may be familiar to some MLS fans as he featured for Martinique in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, scoring a penalty against Mexico in a group stage game. Earlier in the tournament, Martinique defeated Canada 1-0, but they ultimately finished third and missed out on qualifying to the knockout stage.
Altogether, Parsemain has scored 23 goals in 32 appearances for his country.
Based on the initial report, it is unclear if Parsemain would be signed by the Sounders outright, or if he will be a trialist in Seattle's preseason camp.
The Sounders did not respond to a request from MLSsoccer.com for comment on the report.
