Report: Lucho Acosta to leave DC United this offseason as free agent; destination unknown

Luciano Acosta - DC United - Close up

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

After almost a year of speculation, Lucho Acosta will reportedly be departing D.C. United.

The Argentine, who is out of contract at the end of the year, told The Athletic's Pablo Maurer that he'll be leaving the club as his deal expires, according to a tweet from the reporter Tuesday. He was linked heavily with a move to French giants PSG last winter, though it fell through at the 11th hour.

Acosta, 25, was a Best XI selection in 2018 with 10 goals and 17 assists but struggled to replicate that form this season. He had six goals and two assists in 31 appearances (22 starts) as he fell out of the starting XI by the season's end, starting just one of his team's final nine games.

It's a transitional winter for D.C., who already knew they'd be without Wayne Rooney next season as the Englishman heads to Derby County as a player-coach. Ola Kamara was signed late in the summer and Yamil Asad agreed to a pre-contract agreement for 2020.
