Report: LA Galaxy on the verge of adding Polenta to their menu

Diego Polenta - Nacional - heads the ball in a 2016 Copa Libertadore game

The LA Galaxy might be adding Polenta to their menu, err, roster this season.

According to a tweet by Uruguayan journalist Gonzalo Ronchi, Diego Polenta is going to travel to Los Angeles on January 19 to sign with the club in time for the start of preseason. Ronchi said the 26-year-old Uruguayan center back has “maintained communication” with new Galaxy coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto.

Polenta has played at Nacional in Uruguay for the last three years after going on loan there for the 2014-15 season. He started his professional career at Genoa after coming up through the Italian club’s youth ranks and went on a three-year loan to Bari.

Polenta, who has featured for Uruguay’s youth national teams from U-15 to U-23, started his career at his hometown club, Danubio.
