A 14th season for Kyle Beckerman with Real Salt Lake could be on the cards, as a report from Alex Vejar of The Salt Lake Tribune describes mutual interest between the club and player regarding a 2020 return.

A source close to the 37-year-old midfielder, Vejar outlined, said details were all that remained between a deal being signed. General manager Elliot Fall sounded similarly upbeat.

“We'd love Kyle to play for us next year,” Fall said. “No question about it.”

Further, head coach Freddy Juarez said RSL have extended some options for Beckerman's next step and that they "want Kyle" to do what's best for him.

Beckerman is the club’s longtime captain and has made 488 regular-season appearances to go alongside 41 goals and 55 assists. His professional career began with the now-defunct Miami Fusion in 2000, and he also spent five-and-a-half years with the Colorado Rapids on the other side of the Rocky Mountain Cup.

Beckerman is MLS's all-time leader among field players in games played, and has been out of contract since RSL’s 2019 season ended. Should he not return, the offseason would include the departure of three club legends, with the others being goalkeeper Nick Rimando and right back Tony Beltran, both to retirement.
