Report: John Brooks drawing English Premier League interest

He wasn’t quite at his best on Tuesday night, but US national team defender John Brooks still had a very solid Copa America Centenario.

His excellent play in the US’s first four matches has apparently attracted the attention of some serious suitors, with SI’s Grant Wahl reporting on Tuesday that several English Premier League sides are interested and German outlet Bild reporting earlier this week that Manchester City are looking at the Hertha Berlin center back.

Hertha’s management have said that they want to hang on to the 23-year-old Brooks, who signed an extension earlier this year that will keep him under contract with Berlin until 2019. If they were to sell Brooks, Hertha would reportedly be aiming for a €20 million fee.

Despite those reports, Wahl reported on Tuesday that “a source close to Brooks” said that it was possible that a move could happen this summer.

Wahl reported prior to the start of the Copa America that another US national teamer, midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, was also drawing EPL interest. Bedoya, who is currently with French club FC Nantes, was suspended for Tuesday’s match due to card accumulation.
